What Is chimney repair?

Chimney repair covers the masonry and weatherproofing components that keep water out of the structure: tuckpointing or rebuilding spalled brick, recasting a cracked crown, replacing rusted or missing caps, re-doing flashing where the chimney meets the roof, and applying breathable waterproofing to the exterior masonry. Where the liner is damaged or missing, we install or reline with a stainless-steel liner sized to the appliance. Why Is chimney repair Important?

A chimney is the most exposed masonry element on the house. Once water gets past the crown, cap, or flashing, it freezes and thaws inside the bricks, rusts the damper and firebox components, and rots the framing where the chimney passes through the roof. Caught early, repairs are straightforward. Left alone, the same issues turn into full chimney rebuilds and ceiling damage in the rooms below. Repairing the weather envelope is the single most important thing you can do to extend a chimney's life.

When Should You Consider chimney repair?

Call for repair when you see white efflorescence on the brick, cracks in the crown, rust streaks down the exterior, pieces of brick or mortar in the firebox or on the roof, water staining on the ceiling near the chimney, or daylight visible from inside the firebox. After any major storm is also a good time for a quick visual check.
